Gaia Theory

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

Years ago, I heard someone comment that people were just the earth’s way of making plastic, and when it was done, the Earth would shake us off like water off a duck’s back.

That thought has always stayed with me, and it’s been only recently, with all the chatter about global warming, that comment has come to the foreground of my consciousness again.

I have a hard time believing that civilisation is responsible for global warming. It’s not that I think we aren’t doing harm to the environment, I just think that we are a little egotistical in thinking humans can do anything that has such global impact. It’s more resonable to me, as other scientists have theorized, that this is part of a larger cycle that we just weren’t aware of.
