Why I didn’t get the job I wanted so much!
For more than 2 weeks now, I’ve thought I had a job and would start soon. We’ve done the drug test, photo id, everything. HR was doing the background check.
Bottom line is, I don’t have the job. It’s been up in the air since last Thursday, but I got the final word today.
The reason is they cannot verify my education.
I graduated from a community college on the Gulf Coast in 1984 (!!) with a 2 yr degree — that college closed in 1995. Those records were boxed up and passed from hand to hand, and probably even went through hurricanes.
Virginia College has the records now and has attempted to put some organization to them. I requested a copy of my transcript from them 2 weeks ago.
Last Thursday I got a letter from them which says, “The original transcripts have touched many hands since the closing and as a result some have been misplaced or lost in all of the transition. Because of the numerous times the files have moved from one holder to another, it has on occasion prevented us from locating transcripts from students who actually attended and/or graduated the college.”
You know, the fact that I took BASIC, RPG & Fortran back in 1984 shouldn’t make a single bit of difference when I’ve been working in this field all along. They had checked job references before I was even offered the position, they know I can do the job. You would think HR could take these things into consideration.
I am a wreck. I’ve wracked my brain trying to think what I can do, where I might find a copy of my transcript. I just don’t think it exists anymore.
I'm really sorry mom. I wish that this wouldn't have happened, or that there was something that I could do. I know that this is hard to deal with, but normally, as you know, when one door closes…. etc etc….
I love you. Call me soon so we can get together on a date for you to come and hang out with us at the apt. Drew would love to see you as well. Plus, there is a trivia game that we play on the box that I know you would be really good at. I love you. It will work out for the better, I just know it!
